Katharina Schell is deputy editor in chief at APA – Austria Presse Agentur, Austria’s independent news agency. She is responsible for digital strategies and innovation in the APA newsroom, member of the innovation unit “APA-medialab” and member of the APA AI Team.

Key aspects of her work include data driven journalism, digital product development and content automation strategies. Most recently, she has been responsible for the evaluation and implementation of AI components in editorial workflows and editorial products. Her main topics are the use of AI in journalism, AI literacy and AI strategy.  

Schell has a master’s degree in Scandinavian and German Literature Studies. She is Vice President of the Presse Club Concordia, member of the Austrian press council and Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism Fellow (University of Oxford 2024).
