Kamal Anwar has been with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism/United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNOCT-UNCCT) since 2019 – where he leads programmatic activities on UAS Digital Forensics and on Countering the use of Cryptocurrencies to Finance Terrorism.
He has an operational counter-terrorism and security background with deployments in Afghanistan, Yemen, Eastern Africa and as a UAS Pilot in Donbas. His policy background includes roles as Project Manager and Legal Adviser in Austria, Norway, Ukraine and Uganda.
He has a Master’s in International Law with a thesis on Humanitarian Intervention in Syria from the University of Bergen, and completed training programmes on Cryptocurrencies and Artificial Intelligence at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, London School of Economics and Oxford. He is also a critically acclaimed novelist.
