Guilherme Maia de Oliveira Wood

Prof. Guilherme Maia de Oliveira Wood is a psychologist and professor of Neuropsychology and Neuroimaging at the University of Graz, Austria. He earned his degree in Psychology from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil and completed his PhD at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) Aachen in Germany. Since 2005, he has been based in Austria, initially working at the University of Salzburg before joining the University of Graz in 2011.

His research focuses on the development and validation of tools for neuropsychological rehabilitation, with an emphasis on interventions that can induce and guide neuroplasticity in individuals with brain injuries. He approaches rehabilitation as a hierarchically organized, complex biohybrid system. Prof. Wood is also committed to advancing the quality of psychological research, with the goal of addressing the replication crisis and fostering fair, transparent, and rigorous scientific communication. In recent years, his work has centered on integrating brain-computer interfaces, digital technologies, and virtual reality into rehabilitation programs, while also engaging in critical reflection on the societal, ethical, and legal implications of neurotechnologies.
