Johann Čas is an economist and communications engineer. He is a senior researcher at the Institute of Technology Assessment of the Austrian Academy of Sciences with a research focus on information and communication technologies. His recent topics include the societal challenges of robotics and artificial intelligence as well as ethical and legal aspects of future ICT. He was coordinator of the EU projects PRISE and SurPRISE on surveillance, privacy and security. He is also an advisor and reviewer on ethical issues for research projects and the European Commission.
